Can you describe the career opportunity are you pursuing this summer?
This summer, I am interning as a part-time Chief Operating Officer (COO) at a Web3 startup based in Nigeria. We are striving to expand our footprint in the GameFi industry, not only in Nigeria but also in other African countries like Kenya. My role involves hosting and facilitating events at universities, collaborating with the student community, other Web3 startups, and companies such as Ajinomoto and Pocari. My primary responsibility is promoting the company's public profile, which I do by delivering speeches at conferences and negotiating partnerships with other Web3 startups in Nigeria. This internship is a fantastic opportunity for me to delve into my interest in the Web3 industry and gain insights into how startups grow and organize themselves in Africa.
What led you to this opportunity? What help did you receive from your peers, alumni, or CTD in your journey to this position?
My journey to this opportunity was very much influenced by conversations with my peers at Minerva. Through these interactions, I was able to gain a deeper understanding of my passions and priorities in life. This self-awareness guided me when thinking about my summer internship: what did I want to gain from this first-year summer internship?
What skills have you acquired during your studies at Minerva that you believe made you stand out?
One of the most significant changes I have experienced at Minerva is an expansion of my openness toward new worlds, cultures, and people. Engaging in conversations with my peers from all around the world, both inside and outside the classroom, has helped me realize the joy and importance of exploring the unknown. This newfound mindset makes me stand out from others.
What advice would you give to peers or younger students regarding finding and leveraging professional opportunities in your industry?
My main advice would be, "just do it." You will not know your passion without trying it. Once you dive into an industry, you start to understand whether or not it resonates with you. Sometimes, it is essential to take action before overthinking and clouding your judgment.
