How did you discover Minerva?

I first heard about Minerva two years ago from a friend of mine, right before I started my exchange year in the United States. The name "Minerva" has resonated with me since then. This year, I did my research and realized how closely my values correlate with Minerva's and decided to apply!

What made you apply to Minerva?

The feelings of excitement and belonging were only growing as I went through all the pages on the Minerva website. My explorer soul craves new experiences, and Minerva provides such a unique opportunity to be immersed in the global rotation and be around a very diverse, close-knit community. I knew that not only will I be engaged in active learning and practically applying my knowledge, but daily challenging and discovering myself, thus growing both personally and academically. Most importantly, I could see myself thriving at Minerva, constantly learning from my surroundings, and becoming a greater leader.

What was your favorite accomplishment that you submitted in your Minerva application?

I am a recipient of the FLEX scholarship, which gave me an incredible opportunity to be a Kazakhstan ambassador while discovering American culture. For an academic year, I stepped into the shoes of a midwestern teenager, taking a yellow bus to school and riding through corn fields every morning, getting disappointed with Taco Bell, and seeing a deer cross the road for the first time. This experience of living abroad was a driving force for me to develop my independence, enhance my leadership skills, question my own beliefs, and foster a global mindset.

What excites you the most about attending Minerva?

There are so many things! Overall, I am happy about being a member of my cohort and different communities throughout 4 years. I am excited that we can make small and big changes and contribute to the communities we are part of in every country. I am excited to have so many new interactions and endless opportunities with Minerva. I cannot wait to continue exploring the world and myself. I am thrilled to start this journey and see where this experience brings me!

What major are you most interested in and how will that contribute to your future career?

I am most interested in pursuing Business and Social Sciences. I believe that gaining an understanding of how organizations and societies operate using active learning and, right after that, applying this new knowledge to real life through various projects and internships will significantly prepare me for a wide range of career opportunities, even for those that may not exist yet.

Is there any city within the global rotation that you are most excited to explore? Why?

I am excited about London! This city has always been on my bucket list, and I can't wait to walk through the streets that hold such a rich history, visit museums, and shop in local markets.

Describe your expectations for your first year at Minerva in three words.

Transformative, thought-provoking, empowering.

Can you share a piece of advice for future applicants?

For prospective students, I recommend not letting the small admission rate percentage scare you from applying. Be yourself. Each of you is unique and has a special story - present it in your application. But also enjoy the process! Look at it as an opportunity to get to know yourself even better. Before applying, take time to research the university and think if it is a good fit for you. Good luck and believe in yourself!

If you were inspired by Aliya's story and are seeking a college experience that will teach you valuable pragmatic skills that will enable you to change the world, apply to join Minerva today.
